Prophylaxis - Periodontics – Recall Oberursel

“Tooth loss is not inevitable”

The preservation of a natural tooth should be the primary objective of treatment.

From the age of forty more teeth are lost trough the destruction of the gums/periodontium (periodontitis) than through dental caries.

This is what we naturally want to avoid for our patients by applying intensely practiced prophylaxis. Although – in the meantime thrust into the limelight – one wants to make people believe that prophylaxis in dentistry was a new important finding. this does not alter the fact that especially the preventive treatment of dental diseases has been a therapeutic area of vital importance for decades - not only individually but also in public health.

At our practice the systematic treatment clearly differs from the most practiced activities in their scope and approach. This is how - thanks to our focus on complex dental questions and therapies- we are confronted with situations when we have to ask ourselves how, despite regular control treatments and supposedly applied prophylactic measurements (unfortunately, here one thinks of the commonly known professional tooth cleaning, which indeed does not have much to do with adequate prophylaxis), despite symptoms, such as gum bleeding, tooth drift in combination with spacing or even tooth loosening, observed by the patient over a long period, in parts hopeless periodontal results can come up.

In our over 30 years of experience we can, however – flanked by continuous training and the use of advanced micro-surgical operation techniques as well as the use of augmentative treatment process – usually save and stabilize also teeth, that have elsewhere been “abandoned”, and obtain their function over the years.

However, this requires your intensive cooperation both in the treatment phase of care and in the aftercare phase.

The aim of an optimal individual prophylaxis is to enable you to operate optimized dental care which is customized to your individual dental situation. The possible necessary use of periodontal surgical measures as well as supplemental complex, bone building, microsurgical operative techniques is followed by a successful regeneration and lifelong intensive aftercare, in the sense of a regular and optimal recall including a preventive aftercare with rotational probing of the pocket depth, plaque dyeing, remotivation and detection of a possible inflammation.

Many patients who are happy about their longstanding dental conservation reinforce our conviction that with a realistic assessment of the initial situation – which naturally requires respective longstanding experience – the success justifies the effort.
